Mayor’s Cup in Las Vegas
U14 BOYS COPA 94 DERRICK WEHNER
Pride Copa 94 faced some awesome teams, Santa Rosa from CALNorth, Tuzos from Arizona (state champs), and Nevada Pumas for the prelim round. Santa Rosa ended up losing in the final to Vegas United 1-0. Copa 94 lost the first three but we did win our fourth game in the consolation against a CALSouth Chivas team 2-1. So this gave the boys a much needed lift. Hopefully the stiff competition will just make us better in the long run.
Pueblo Sunbelt Classic
U10 GOLD
Pride Forza, and coach Kyle Conroy had a pretty good showing in the tourney and definitely will benefit from the tough competition. The boys won two of their three games with scores of 3-2 and 5-3, which was good enough for them to finish in 3rd place.
U10 SILVER
U9 Pride Strikers, and coach Todd McLain lost a heartbreaker in dbl overtime in the final of U10 Silver….we gave up a penalty kick with less than 20 seconds left in the game which tied it up. We had so many opportunities to put it away including a penalty kick (rough game…total of 4 penalty kicks) in OT but couldn’t capitalize.
No worries though, the boys had a great time and it was very beneficial!
U11 GOLD
Pride Predators 97, and coach Brian Contreras had a very good showing winning the three bracket games 6-0, 3-1, and 5-0. The team went on to win the final game 5-0, and looked very sharp for a pre season tournament. The Predator 97 boys are ready to get the Premier 1 season started, to continue to push themselves to be the best they can be.
U12 BRONZE
Pride Copa 96, and coach Tim Laxson started the tournament a little slow, but came roaring back in their last two games. In the three games, they lost 0-1, then won 4-0 and 2-0, which was good enough to finish 3rd place. Coach Tim was very pleased with the boys performance and is very excited about the spring season.
U13 SILVER
Pride Copa 95, and coach Pat Haar did a great job at the tournament winning two games 4-0 and 2-0, and drawing 1-1 which put them into the finals. In the championship game Copa had the better scoring chances even in the overtime, but the game would be decided by penalty kicks. The team ended up losing by one kick, and finished 2nd, but look good heading into the season.
U13 BRONZE
Pride Red 95, and coach Ben Jones won all three of their bracket games 2-0, 3-2, and 6-0. The team scored 11 points, gave up only 2 goals total the entire tournament, had 2 shutouts and went into the championship game with 31 out of 33 possible points. The championship game ended regulation play 0-0, the teams played 2 overtime periods without a score ( 0-0), and Red 95 lost in the PK shootout. It was a disappointing way to finish, as we had dominated the game, We just couldn't get one in. The wind definitely was a factor. Overall the boys played very well together. It was a great way to start the season.
U14 GOLD
Pride Copa 94, and coach Derrick Wehner finished 3rd in a pretty tough division. The team won a game 2-0, tied one 0-0 and lost one 1-2. Copa 94 will play in the Premier 1 division this spring, so the tough competition will definitely be beneficial in preparing for league play. Copa 94 will be the only second team from the same club to compete in the Premier 1 division for this age group, which is a great accomplishment by the coaches and players.
U15 GOLD
Pride Predators 94, and coach Chad Lauber finished 2nd and lost in the final 1-2 in the 2nd "Golden Goal" overtime to the Pride Predators 93. Predators 94 went up 1-0 with about 10 minutes remaining, and to the 93's credit, they were able to tie with about 5 minutes remaining. We had a few chances in extra time as did they, they obviously were able to put one in the net too (very nice shot from one of their players). Kyle played extremely well as did their GK. It was a good tournament for the boys, and helped in preparation for the spring season.
