The Predators '91 team arrived in Phoenix over the weekend of March 8th and 9th anticipating a good tournament to start the Spring '08 season off and we were not disappointed. Although Phoenix this time of year was buzzing with pre-season major league baseball, there was plenty of soccer to be had.

After arriving a our hotel in Scottsdale, we headed over to the Scottsdale Soccer Complex where college coaches from University of Washington were presenting and answering questions about college athletics and expectations to parents and potential college player candidates. The presentation was very interactive where many questions were asked by players and parents, and answered by the coaches. All this while a host of soccer games were going on in the numerous fields in the background.

The night ended about 10 PM when our coach, Paul Brookens, arrived and gave the team a pep talk about what to expect for our weekend and then quickly announced lights out as we had an 8 AM game the next day.

Saturday morning in Phoenix this time of year did not disappoint. Even though there was a slight coolness to the morning, the warmth of the dessert came though to a bunch of rugged Coloradans, after enduring a cold winter to the north. The fields at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Scottsdale were beautifully manicured green grass fields. A real sight for sore eyes! The boys battled hard against good New Mexico and New Jersey teams, but alas, lost their games 2-1 against both teams. However, we dominated possession time on each game and were sure to impress any college coach that ventured our way to observe.

Saturday night was spent feasting on a wonderful meal hosted by one of the parents that drove down with their RV. The boys ate well and got some well deserved relaxation time after the games. That night, we then went to watch a women's college game against BYU and Arizona State University. Afterwards, it was lights out to prepare for Sunday's game against an anticipated tough Las Vegas team.

Sunday was a beautiful day as we all soaked up the sun and warmth, knowing we'd be soon be returning to Colorado spring time weather. The boys were ready to go and fought a hard physical game to a 1-0 victory! However, it was a short, yet very joyful, celebration as we all were headed for home to Colorado immediately after the game.

All in all, it was a very successful weekend. The team experienced college coaches, observed college level play, and played against some very good talent from all over the country. Next year, look for your team to participate in the Sereno College Showcase tournament in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona...you'll enjoy it!
