Nov 2007 -

The weekend of October 6th & 7th, brought out several Pride competitive teams to the beautiful Vail Mountains for the 2007 Vail Challenge Cup.

This tournament gives the opportunity for Intermediate, Classic and Challenge Competitive teams to compete against other high performing teams across the state. All teams showed tremendous Pride spirit and sportsmanship as they faced challenging teams in their respective brackets.

U11G – Pride Red ‘97

The Pride Red ‘97 (U11G Classic A) team stepped up and dominated play in all three matches as they have all season. “The level of soccer these girls are playing are turning heads” comments Coach Rob Hilbert. “With all end results aside, our primary focus is intensity and effort and that is what this team brings and what this team does.”

Heart and soul along with sweat and dedication allowed the “Big Red” girls to take home proud Vail tourney stats of 1-1-1. The girls fought a tough game against Colorado Storm Black (U11G Premier A) in which they outplayed and outshot this Premier level team, but unfortunately took one in the net with only five minutes left in the game for the undeserved loss. Red ‘97 kept their pace and went on to tie fellow rival Real Red (Classic B) and then grasped an easy 3-0 win against Corinthians Black Hotshots (U11G Challenge A).

The opportunity to travel to Vail has strengthened the bond of coaches, players and parents. “Immediate results is not our focus. Development of the player and learning good soccer is what makes a great team”, Coach Hilbert says with a grin. “This is what it’s ALL about!” Congratulations “BIG RED”!

U12G – Pride Black ‘96

Playing with “big hearts” is what soccer is all about and that’s what Coach Jerry McClain says his Pride Black ‘96 (U12G Classic) team brought to this tournament.

They finished 2-1-0 in their bracket missing the semi-finals by only very close points. “The girls had success! We had a great time!”, said Mclain. Black ‘96 moved up from Challenge to Classic this season and has been competing and working hard to earn their Classic spot.

Black ‘96 let no goals through in their first two matches beating Rush Strikers 2-0 and finished strong 1-0 against season competitor Real Co Red 1-0. Way to finish with Pride ladies!
