Flying Model Airplanes at the Soccer Field
Have you ever seen a model airplane fly and thought that it would be neat to do that? Well every Wednesday morning when the weather is not too cold or windy, members of Pikes Peak Soaring Society (PPSS) fly electric powered model airplanes and gliders at the Pride Soccer field on Woodmen Road.
The members of PPSS would like to show you how interesting this hobby is. They would also like to let you fly a model with them. A buddy box is some times used which lets the teaching pilot to take over control of the model in the event that learning pilot has a control problem. The models range from small electric powered airplanes to large gliders. Some airplanes are made of foam and some are made from balsa and plywood. All of the models are radio controlled; some use only a simple radio while others use more complex ones. The PPSS has a great web site at www.ppssrc.com . There you can see pictures of the planes as well as information about the club and contact email addresses.
So if the weather is good and you do not have to be in school on a Wednesday, then come out to the soccer field and see what we do. The club also holds a monthly contest at our flying field in Peyton, the information about these contest is also available on the web site.
